My Story
How Self-Mastery Changed My Life
I used to be a simple man.
My days consisted of:
Endless scrolling. (Looking for validation from social media platforms.)
Waking up feeling depressed and unmotivated.
Porn 3x or more a day.
Going out every weekend, wasting my money on getting drunk, and even blacked out on multiple occasions.
Abusing cannabis.
Smoking anything that was smokeable. (Hub, pipe, cigarettes, cigars, joints, bongs, etc.)
Most of my time spent indoors on my bed.
I was miserable.
And I did not even know it.
My dopamine systems were fried and left me depressed.
But everything changed when I got Covid.
I was forced to stay at home for 2 months after 5 years of going out every weekend.
I was living with my parents so there was no way for me to even indulge in the behaviors that were normal to me.
But I still had my vape at least, haha. But every pull of that vape led to more misery, and my throat resulted in experiencing agonizing pain.
My lungs were constricting the flow of air into my body.
I remember lying on my bed, suffering from my own actions.
Then I had an epiphany.
I am responsible for my suffering.
I realized that something needed to change.
I gathered all of my willpower and focused on replacing my habits with good ones.
It started simple:
Jogged every morning immediately after getting out of bed.
Breathwork whenever I had the chance and whenever I had a craving to smoke something.
Reading and studying habit formation and neurobiology behind it.
Slowly but surely I managed to cut down. Eventually leading me to go 2 weeks without smoking. But then fell back into the same habit. What was that barrier keeping me from quitting this damn addiction?
My own mind.
The Foundational Shift
During those 2 months I discovered meditation. This practice is responsible for cutting down every addiction in my entire life.
I managed to stay consistent with the practice because I did not overthink it and it brought me lots of peace and positivity.
I was addicted. This was the practice I was looking for.
I found such a deep sense of peace that I:
No longer felt the needed for harming my body
Improved the way I treat other people
Focused my priorities more on healthy habits
Detached from the partying scene
Psychedelics were also a huge contribution towards my pursuit of healthy living.
It made me realize that there are other states of being possible. And I have full control over it.
All of this happened during Covid and contributed towards the unbreakable mindset I have now.
Discipline and willpower are traits we acquire from mastering the mind.
My Method For Eliminating Addictions And Building Good Habits
Now that I knew what was possible. It was time to really put in the work.
This is where my entire life changed for the better.
I simply stayed away from negative environments and replaced my dopamine sources. It truly is as simple as that.
But you must want it badly enough.
You must cultivate a belief system that creates a vision for something greater than where you are now.
And you must believe it is possible to get out of your situation.
It will be hard. But you can do it in 2 months if you really stay consistent.
It will require sacrificing your old life for a new life.
Old friends for new friends (or even loneliness).
But in the end it is so worth it.
Because you find a greater sense of meaning for life.
Your actions are driven by purpose and not pleasure.
You develop a mindset that continuously allows you to grow into your best version.
This is where the top 1% of people are born.
Your mindset dictates the actions you take and the way you think.
Your actions and thinking determines your habits.
And your habits will eventually lead you to success.
In the beginning, it is hard because you don’t see results.
And this is where the majority of mankind fails.
They lack long-term vision.
Your vision is your why.
And your why will determine your success.
